He meets with Laxmi (Rekha) and both like each other, and they marry. Years later they have three very well-behaved children, two boys, and a girl. Rajshekhar is proud of his children and is shocked to find one day that his eldest son, Ravi (Govinda) is having an affair with the daughter of a prostitute, when Ravi protests, he is asked to leave the house, which he does and finds work as a petrol-pump attendant. Sometime later, money is missing from the household, initially they suspect their servant, Keshav (Mohan Choti), but then find out that it is their second son, Shashi (Alankar) who is the thief, he too is asked to leave the house, which he does, and finds employment as a peon. Sometime later, Rajshekhar and Laxmi find a suitable groom for their daughter, Babli (Sheela David), but she refuses to marry, as she does not want to waste her life living in her husband's shadow. Their lives turned upside down, they start having health problems. They go in for medical check-ups, not knowing that this will change their lives, and way of thinking forever. The film marked the debut of Raj Kapoor as producer and director and was the first film produced by his R.K Banner. It was also the first of many films he did with actress Nargis. Premnath, Nigar Sultana, Kamal Kapoor and Kamini Kaushal also starred in supporting roles. Raj Kapoor's youngest brother Shashi Kapoor appeared as a child artist in this film playing the younger version of his character. Kewal (Raj Kapoor) reluctantly acceps his father (Kamal Kapoor)'s demands to continue the family tradition by studying law and become a successful lawyer just like him. However due to a lack of interest in becoming a lawyer and more interest in opening up his own theatre company, he fails his law exams and is thrown out of the house by his father. Luckily he finds a patron of the arts Rajan, (Premnath) who is the owner of a closen down theatrical company. A childhood romance with a girl named Nimmi haunts his fantasies, and Kewal searches for her in other women, even renaming them after his former sweetheart. With a theater, a play and a feminine image in his mind, he discovers a woman made homeless by Partition (Nargis) and the play of his dreams can at last be written and performed. It stars Dilip Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Sanjeev Kumar, Shammi Kapoor, Padmini Kolhapure, Amrish Puri, Madan Puri and Sarika. This was the first of three successful film collaborations between Subhash Ghai and Dilip Kumar and was followed by Karma (1986) and Saudagar (1991). Shamsher Singh (Dilip Kumar) is a very wealthy, poweful, and influential man. His son Pratap Singh (Suresh Oberoi) was tragically killed at a young age, leaving behind a son, Kunal Singh (Sanjay Dutt), who now lives with his grandfather. Also living with Shamsher are a faithful old employee Abu Baba (Sanjeev Kumar) who has taken care of Kunal for most of his childhood and teen years. Kunal grows up without any hang-ups, and is attracted to a local young lady, Durga (Padmini Kolhapure), who lives with her mother is not wealthy. When Kunal takes Durga to introduce her to his granddad, and Abu Baba, Shamsher instantly takes a dislike to Durga, due to her poverty, and asks Durga's mother, not to permit Durga to see nor contact Kunal again. Durga and her mother decide to move out, but are molested. Abu Baba comes to their rescue, and as a result he is killed. Kunal is enraged, and swears to avenge Abu Baba's death. His investigation to the man behind Abu Baba's death leads him to the associates of his grandfather Shamsher, and subsequently to his grandfather himself, who it seems is living a double life. Eventually it is discovered that Shamsher's associates are none other the ones who killed his son Pratap. This also completed the 'Debut Silver Jubilee Hatrick' for actor Amol Palekar, who had given hits with his debut film, Rajnigandha (1974),followed by Chhoti Si Baat (1975). All three films were directed by Basu Chatterjee, and were all Silver Jubilee hits in Mumbai . Yesudas Synopsis Pitamber Chaudhri, headmaster of a school in Madhupur, has a daughter named Geeta. Geeta is a typical village belle, naive, and childish, and always in the company of a little boy who is her neighbour. Pitamber's older daughter, Meera, who lives in Mumbai, informs Pitamber of the arrival of a young engineer who could be a possible match for Geeta. Pitamber is asked to welcome him and treat him well. Without further question, Pitamber and family do just that when the visitor arrives by train. Vinod, the newcomer, takes an instant liking to the family and to Geeta in particular, even teaching her to sing. The family begins to talk about the possibility of Vinod and Geeta marrying, and life is good until another letter from Meera arrives. Pitamber is shocked to read that the engineer whom Meera was sending to meet the family has not yet arrived, but will be coming soon. Vinod is only an overseer who happened to come early, as his boss was delayed and could not make it as planned. The family is disappointed. They asks Geeta to stop seeing Vinod and turn her attention to Sunil, the engineer, but Geeta cannot forget Vinod. Sunil is fond of Geeta and agrees to the engagement, which is quickly arranged. When Vinod hears of the engagement, he prepares to leave the village before the ceremony. Upon hearing this, Geeta insists that she will marry Vinod, against the wishes of her family. She rushes to the train station, but not before the train leaves. Disheartened, she turns back and is received and driven back to her house by Sunil. To her surprise, Vinod is at the house. All misconceptions have been cleared up, and Geeta and Vinod are to be engaged.
