How to run DOS games and applications on Windows Vista, Linux, and Mac OS X using DOSBox

I started gaming back in 1993 on a computer which had a 40MHz processer and ran MS-DOS. Over 15 years have passed and I still love those old DOS games which I used to play back then. Unfortunately, most modern OS such as Windows Vista does not include native MS DOS support – you'll get error messages if you try to run DOS games or apps on such operating systems. This is where DOSBox comes in – DOSBox is an MS-DOS emulator which will help you run all your favorite DOS games and applications on Windows Vista, Linux, Mac OS X and a number of other operating systems.

If you are currently using Windows Vista, whenever you try to run a DOS game or an app the following error will be displayed: "This system does not support fullscreen mode. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application". If you ignore it an continue, another error is likely to follow and the program will shut down. With DOSBox around, you will have to face no more of this nuisance.

How to download and configure DOSBox

Download DOSBox from the official download page.
Once the download is complete, run the installer and install DOSBox.
Now you need to move your DOS games and applications to a single directory. For example, create a directory C:\DosGames and move all your DOS games under that directory. (It's better to place each game in a separate subdirectory Ex- C:\DosGames\Dave\…, C:\DosGames\Prince\…, etc)

Note: Steps 4-9 is based on the assumption that your dos games directory is C:\DosGames. If you used another directory, change the commands accordingly.
Run DOSBox. Type the following command in DOSBox command prompt:
mount c C:\DosGames
Now you will be able to navigate to C:\DosGames directory using standard DOS commands and run any game placed inside that folder. If you have forgotten DOS commands, read on.
Type C:\ and press enter in the DOSBox console.
Type DIR and press enter. A list of subdirectories in the DosGames folder will be displayed.
You can browse to any subdirectory in the DosGames folder using the cd command. Ex- to browse to Dave directory simply type:
cd Dave and press enter.
Once you are in the game directory, type the game executable and press enter to play. This executable can be found using the DIR command.

If you don't know already, HD-Bits.Ro is a one of the best places on the net where you can find and download high definition movie, TV show and documentary torrents. With over 2800 indexed torrents and a great user base, HD-Bits.Ro is one of the largest HD trackers currently online.

It's not only HD movies you can find on HD-Bits.Ro. Over 200 documentaries from premium content providers such as History Channel, Discovery, BBC, National Geographic, etc are tracked on HD-Bits.Ro. Lots of HDTV rips and x264 encodes of US based TV shows can also be found on this tracker. In addition, there are some music videos in HD format as well as over 400 torrents of lossless music online. Apart from individual releases, HD-Bits tracks a lot of unique collections as well. Since these are all HD content, size of the packs are huge – I found a movie pack which exceeds 305GB in size).

ExDesi tracker – Bollywood/Hindi movie torrents

Some good news for those who love Indian (Bollywood) movies. ExDesi or ExtremeDesi is a private torrent tracker and a forum which has lots of Hindi movie torrents. It however is not a dedicated movies tracker - you can find Indian/Pakistani music, TV shows, documentaries, stage shows (live performances) and even sports torrents on ExDesi. At the time this post is being written, this tracker has a user base in excess of 48000 active members and tracks close to 2700 torrents.

If you are looking for English movies, you won't find them on ExDesi (for English movie trackers, look here ). Although I did manage to find some new English movies on this tracker, they were all dubbed in Hindi. Hindi movies on ExDesi however do come complete with English subtitles (most of the time). Releases by Indian P2P groups such as BrG, DUS, xDR and DDR can be found on this tracker. Apart from torrents, ExDesi has an online streaming links section and a direct download links/one click hosting links section in its forums.

ExDesi is usually closed for signups but as of this moment it has opened registrations for a short while. A note on the site reads:

If you are interested in getting into this tracker, now would be a good time to register. ExDesi is a decent tracker to have specially if you like BollyWood / Pakistani movies and TV serials.
